Todd Leiter-Weintraub It's the "dark album" from this wonderful Chicago psych band. It's like they reflect the sound of 60's psych in a brand-new shiny mirror, but it's one of those distorted circus mirrors that they bent to their own design.

Julian Mackrell Wonderful trippy psych full of mood, grooves and memorable moments, it's all good but the first 4 tracks are simply perfect. Likely to be top of my favourites list for the forseeable future Favorite track: Go.

Songs for Mara is the third album by Chicago's The Red Plastic Buddha. The name refers to Prince Siddhartha's struggle to overcome the demon of his own ego on the path to becoming the Buddha. The songs on this record make a break from the flower power psychedelia of All Out Revolution, with darker themes addressing addiction, obsession and madness. Although Songs for Mara reveals a darker side of the band, the songs still feature the melodic catchiness The Red Plastic Buddha have become known for.
